Harrot Hill

The Background

Ward & Burke specialises in the design, manufacture, supply, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure with all associated mechanical & electrical, civil, and, environmental, activities in Ireland and the UK.

Contracted via North West water company United Utilities and alongside other contractors, Ward & Burke were set to replace a previous site with Thirlmere reservoir as the new source of drinking water for homes and businesses in West Cumbria. The scheme would link the area to Thirlmere Reservoir and involves the construction of 100km of new pipelines, a new water treatment plant at Williamsgate, two new pumping stations and two new underground service reservoirs.

The Project

To assist the project and help with work after completion, a crane was required to allow the movement of pumps and auxiliary equipment, which WH Scott & Son successfully tendered for. Working closely with all contractors at the Harrot Hill pumping station, WHS designed, manufactured and installed a 5t overhead travelling crane on site and – once installed – load tested and commissioned the crane to ensure it was up to the highest standard.
