Aerospace Lifting Equipment & Crane Systems
Precision crane systems, cleanroom-compatible lifting and statutory inspection for aerospace manufacturing and MRO across the UK and Ireland.
Aerospace Lifting
Aerospace lifting is a precision discipline. Fuselage sections, wing assemblies, engine modules and avionics are high-value, awkwardly balanced and unforgiving of shock loading — a single contact, twist or unplanned stop can mean scrap, rework or a stalled programme.
Whether the environment is a production line, a component manufacturing cell or an Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hangar, lifting equipment has to work around jigs, fixtures and customer depand, while staying clean, controlled and fully traceable. WH Scott Group supports aerospace manufacturers, MRO providers and tier-one suppliers across the UK and Ireland with engineered crane systems, bespoke lifting equipment and the inspection regime that keeps them compliant

Aerospace Lifting Challenges We Solve
Catalogue lifting equipment rarely survives contact with an aerospace specification. Four constraints usually drive the design.
- Load geometry and distortion risk. Long wing structures flex and amplify sway; cylindrical fuselage sections rotate or distort if load paths are uneven. Bespoke lifting beams and multi-point frames spread the load and hold alignment through the lift.
- Contamination control. Composite lay-up, paint and avionics areas restrict particulate, lubricant and debris. Cleanroom-compatible cranes use sealed, low-shed components and FOD-conscious detailing without giving up capacity.
- Positioning accuracy. Placing an assembly into a jig demands micro-speed control, smooth acceleration and predictable stopping — normally inverter-driven motion paired with radio remote control so the operator can stand where they can actually see the fit.
- Traceability and audit. AS9100 and internal quality frameworks expect the same documented history from a crane or a spreader beam as from a machined part. Every accessory below the hook needs its own examination record.

How WH Scott Group Supports Aerospace Operations
Design and supply. Overhead gantry cranes, process cranes and cleanroom crane systems specified around your span, headroom, duty cycle and hook coverage. Where the load is non-standard, we design, fabricate and load-test bespoke lifting beams, frames and vacuum lifting beams that protect finished surfaces.
Control and integration. Customised radio remote systems, micro-speed positioning and controlled acceleration give operators repeatable placement into jigs and fixtures — with the crane designed to sit inside your existing production flow rather than force a change to it.
Inspection and lifecycle support. LOLER thorough examination, load testing and certification, planned preventative maintenance, breakdown response and crane modernisation — delivered from depots across the UK and Ireland, with asset histories and reports available through our online inspection portal.

Aerospace Lifting Compliance: LOLER, PUWER & AS9100
Lifting equipment in aerospace sits under LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998, and is built and inspected to the relevant BS EN standards for cranes and lifting accessories. In practice, thorough examination runs at twelve-monthly intervals for lifting equipment and six-monthly for lifting accessories and anything used to lift people — more often where the written scheme of examination requires it.
Aerospace then adds a second layer. AS9100 quality systems expect documented traceability from your lifting assets, not only your parts. WH Scott Group is a LEEA member and holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 27001 certification, with INAB-accredited engineering inspection available through Metlab — so examination reports and load test certificates arrive audit-ready rather than needing rework before a customer audit.
