WH SCOTT
Crane & Hoist Components for Custom Lifting Systems
SWF wire rope hoists, chain hoists, crane kits and light crane systems from 60kg to 250t, plus spares and repairs for all major brands in the UK and Ireland.
Crane Components for New Crane Systems, Upgrades and Repairs
A crane is only as good as the components inside it. As an SWF Krantechnik partner, WH Scott supplies and configures hoists, winches, trolleys, controls and complete crane kits, so a system is built around your building and your duty cycle rather than around a catalogue product.
That suits three kinds of buyer: crane builders and OEMs specifying components for a new build, engineering teams replacing a worn or obsolete hoist on an existing gantry, and operators who need a part quickly to get a crane back into service. SWF configuration software lets us return technical data, layout drawings and a price quickly, and components can also be designed, fabricated and installed as part of a complete system by our own steelwork and installation teams.

What We Supply
Wire Rope Hoists and Winches
SWF NOVA wire rope hoists cover loads up to 80 tonnes and lifting heights above 100m, with a large drum diameter giving near-vertical lift, minimal lateral hook movement and long rope life. For heavier duties the modular CRABster range handles 32t to 250t as a solo winch or a complete crane kit, fixed-position or double-girder trolley. Its two-rope design lifts with no horizontal hook movement, and central lubrication, accessible upper sheaves and strain-gauge overload protection keep servicing straightforward.
Crane Kits and Light Crane Systems
Crane kits from 125kg to 80t are supplied pre-assembled and pre-wired as far as practical, with the crane girder and installation labour normally provided on your side — a cost-effective route for crane builders and in-house engineering teams. For lighter handling, LIGHTster aluminium and ProfileMaster steel systems cover 60kg to 2,000kg in single-girder, double-girder, monorail, curve, switch and turntable configurations, manual or electrically driven and matched to SWF chain hoists. ProfileMaster’s closed cold-formed sections suit buildings with limited securing points; LIGHTster’s lower weight reduces installation cost and runs more quietly.
Manual Lifting Equipment
Chain blocks, lever hoists, push and geared trolleys and beam clamps from 250kg to 20,000kg, with galvanised or stainless chain options, overload devices and slipping clutches fitted, and an operating range from -20°C to +40°C. Explosion-proof versions are available for hazardous areas.
Spare Parts and Repairs
We hold and source SWF hoist, chain hoist and crane spares, plus parts for Demag, Morris, Stahl, Street Crane, Konecranes, Abus, Verlinde, GIS and Misia — often for next-working-day despatch where the hoist serial and part numbers are to hand. Repairs are carried out on site or in our workshop on any make of lifting equipment, backed by UK and Ireland-based servicing and breakdown support.

Specification at a Glance
- Load capacity — 60kg to 250t: wire rope hoists to 80t, CRABster winches 32t to 250t, crane kits 125kg to 80t, light crane systems to 2,000kg, manual equipment to 20,000kg.
- Lifting height — over 100m available on NOVA wire rope hoists.
- Configuration — single or double girder, fixed winch or trolley-mounted, for overhead, bridge and gantry arrangements. Light crane systems can often be suspended directly from a suitable roof structure.
- Drive and control — manual or electric travel, with frequency inverter control on selected ranges for gentle starts and accurate positioning.
- Protection — IP55 and insulation class F as standard on SWF crane kit components, with EX-rated variants for ATEX zones.
- Selection — SWF configuration software and CraneMaster produce quotations, technical data sheets and layout drawings to your specification.
Where These Components Are Used
Most of what we supply goes into manufacturing, warehousing, steel and metal processing, water and utilities and general plant maintenance: new overhead and gantry crane builds, hoist replacements on existing runways, lightweight modular handling over assembly benches, and heavy component handling where a winch is the only sensible answer. Where the atmosphere is classified, the same components are available as explosion proof lifting equipment.
Lifting Equipment Standards and Compliance
Power-driven hoists and winches are supplied to BS EN 14492-2, hand-powered chain blocks and lever hoists to BS EN 13157, and crane structures designed against the BS EN 13001 series. Equipment must also arrive with the correct conformity documentation — UKCA or CE marking under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 in Great Britain, and CE marking for equipment placed on the market in Ireland.
Once the equipment is in service the duty shifts to the user. In Great Britain, LOLER 1998 requires thorough examination by a competent person — as a general position at least every 12 months for lifting equipment and every six months for lifting accessories and anything used to lift people — alongside the inspection duties in PUWER 1998. Ireland’s equivalent requirements sit in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 299 of 2007), which set comparable intervals and require a written report from a competent person. We can include statutory examination and certification into a planned maintenance programme.
