WH SCOTT
Industrial Radio Remote Control Repairs, Spares & Modernisation
Transmitter and receiver repairs, genuine AUTEC spare parts from UK and Irish stock, and upgrade routes for ageing systems — most radios repaired and returned within a week, without shipping your equipment overseas.
AUTEC repairs and spare parts
When an industrial radio remote fails, the crane it controls stops with it. WH Scott repairs and refurbishes transmitters and receivers, supplies genuine AUTEC spare parts from stock, and replaces or modernises systems that are no longer economical to repair.
As UK agents for AUTEC and an authorised AUTEC repair centre for the UK and Ireland, we work on AUTEC equipment here rather than returning it to Italy, taking international shipping out of your downtime. AUTEC builds its systems to be repaired rather than replaced, with damaged and worn parts designed to be changed out.
We also repair and source parts for other manufacturers’ systems, including HBC-radiomatic, Tele Radio, Ikusi, Cattron, Hetronic, Scanreco, Magnetek, Demag and Konecranes.
Radio engineering and spare parts stock are held at our Bristol repair centre, supported by depots across the UK and Ireland.

Common faults — and how a repair is handled
Most failures come from the working environment rather than the electronics themselves.
Transmitter faults
Examples include: worn or drifting joysticks and potentiometers, failed pushbuttons, cracked housings, impact and water damage, corroded battery contacts, failed chargers, damaged aerials and faulty displays.
Receiver faults
Failed output relays and contactors, power supply faults, loss of pairing with the transmitter, damaged terminals and wiring, moisture or dust ingress, and interference from other equipment on site.
Getting a repair started
Send the transmitter and receiver together where possible — some faults only show when the pair is tested as a system. Units are stripped down, fault-found, quoted and returned fully function-tested. Where a system is beyond economical repair we’ll say so and price the alternative, including a like-for-like replacement matched to the original

Compliance after a radio remote repair
A radio remote isn’t lifting equipment in its own right, so it carries no LOLER certificate of its own. It is part of the crane’s control system, which brings it within regulation 18 of PUWER 1998 in the UK and regulation 32 of S.I. No. 299 of 2007 in Ireland: control systems must be safe and must fail safely. A repaired remote must still stop the crane if the signal, battery or supply is lost, and AUTEC classifies the STOP function on its current transmitters up to PL e, SIL 3 — a repair should leave that intact.
Where work goes beyond a like-for-like repair, the crane may need examining before it returns to service — under the LOLER ACOP (L113) in the UK and regulation 52 of S.I. No. 299 of 2007 in Ireland. HSE guidance on refurbished and modified machinery sets out where that line falls. We can arrange that alongside the radio work: see LOLER thorough examination and certification or lifting equipment inspection in Ireland.
